Working Moms vs. Poor Kids: Cynicism on display

This has to be the most cynical thing I have ever read in the Providence Journal:

Central Falls High School is ground zero in a battle between radical education change focused on the needs of students, and the hard-won labor rights that protect the jobs and working conditions of adults.

See, when they frame the issue as working moms versus poor kids it is the embodiment of what robber baron Jay Gould said:

I can hire one half of the working class to kill the other half.

Forget doing the hard work of addressing poverty; forget taking on the politically difficult task of dealing with racism and immigration. Why touch those third rails? Let’s just play cynical politics and make the people at the bottom fight each other.

Another day, another attack on workers

They just can't help themselves. The Projo editorial board once again published an editorial attack workers rights, this time concerning job security. This time, they go after hotel and service workers. The Providence City Council recently passed a measure to protect workers from being outsourced in the hotel industry, like what happened to hotel workers in Boston. But according to the editors, worker protection is verbotten!

The ordinance would require that employees at any hotel or food-service operation at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center, the Rhode Island Convention Center and the Veterans Memorial Auditorium retain their jobs for at least six months after the sale or change in the management of these hotels or food operations. To compound the nuttiness, it would extend this command to any such operations in any buildings linked to the aforementioned facilities by internal walkways, sky bridges or parking lots!

That's right folks.....making sure a company can't buy your employer and fire you is "nuttiness" according to the ProJo.

Mission Statement

Every day there is another attack. Every day there is more editorializing in what are supposed to be news stories. Everyday there is a story of struggle that is missed, over looked, and ignored.

Enough is enough!

The Providence Journal, the only statewide newspaper in Rhode Island, is failing the working people of this state with its bias against organized labor. It is time the working people of Rhode Island expose the ProJo for what it is: a tool of Rhode Island’s corporate elite who use any means at their disposal to crush unions, distort the truth, and keep working class people in their place.

The blog is for people who refuse to be kept in their place!

We will regularly post stories that show the bias and lack of balance on the editorial pages and reporting of the Providence Journal. If you have something to say or a story that should be exposed, please email the editor at projoexposed@gmail.com .
